How a project runs.
The working agreement in plain English, so nothing about it is a surprise halfway through.
This page describes how I work. It is a summary, not a contract — each project gets its own written quote, and that quote is what governs the work. Where the two disagree, the quote wins.
Quotes
Every project is quoted as a fixed number in writing before anything starts. The quote says what is included and what is not. It holds for 30 days.
If the scope changes after we start — more pages, a logo that was not in the original plan, content that turns out not to exist — the change is quoted before the work happens, not billed afterwards.
Payment
- 50% to start. That is what books the time.
- The remaining 50% on launch, before the site goes to your domain.
- Site care, if you take it, is monthly and can be cancelled at any time. Cancelling stops the next month; it does not claw back the last one.
Domain registration, hosting fees, stock photography and paid font licences are yours and are paid to the provider directly. They are named in the quote when a project needs them.
Feedback and revisions
Two rounds of design feedback are included. A round means you look at the work, collect your thoughts, and send them in one go — that is what makes two rounds enough. Further rounds are possible and are quoted before they happen.
Small corrections during the build (a typo, a wrong phone number, a swapped photo) are not a round and are not counted.
Timelines
A typical site runs two to four weeks: discover, design, build, launch. That assumes feedback comes back within a few days and that your content — text, photos, logo — is available when the build starts.
If content is late the timeline moves. I will tell you as soon as that becomes true rather than at the end.
What you own
Everything, once the final payment clears: the design, the files, the domain, the hosting account, and the site itself. Accounts are created in your name where possible and transferred where not. Nothing is held on my side as leverage.
Two limits, and they are the normal ones. Fonts, stock photography and any third-party code stay under their own licences, which are passed to you. And I keep the right to show the work in my own portfolio — if a project needs to stay private, say so and it will.
Cancelling
You can stop a project at any point. The deposit covers work already done and is not refundable; anything paid beyond the work completed is returned. You keep whatever has been produced up to that point.
I would only stop a project in extreme circumstances — non-payment, or being asked to build something I think is dishonest. In that case you get everything completed to date and anything paid for work not done comes back.
What I do not promise
I cannot promise search rankings, traffic numbers or sales. Anyone who does is guessing. What I will do is build the site so those things are possible: fast, structured properly, readable on a phone, and described correctly to search engines.
Once a site is handed over and edited by other people, it is theirs — including whatever happens to it after that.
