What I do
I build websites for businesses that need to look like they mean it.
Most of the people I work with are doing good work with no time to fight a page builder. I take the whole thing off your hands — the design, how the page is put together, the build, and the handoff — so what you end up with is a site you can actually run.
-
Businesses
Studios, shops, trades, and professional practices. Work that deserves better than a template.
-
You talk to the person building it
No account manager, no handoff between teams. The same person scopes it, designs it, and ships it.
-
Built to hand over
You own the site and everything in it, with notes on how to keep it going once I'm gone.
Selected Work
Concept work.
Six self-directed site designs. Each one has a short write-up of the thinking behind it.
About
A designer with a security background.
Hi, I'm Jared. I run this studio, and I build websites for businesses one at a time. By day I'm an IT support specialist at the University of Utah. Before that I looked after campus systems at BYU–Hawaii for 2,500 + students and staff, and 350 + machines at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Every project starts with a conversation about what you actually need, not a template.
I'm also part-way through a master's in cybersecurity management: vulnerability management, secure network operations, risk and compliance. That is the part most designers don't bring. Your site gets built by someone who thinks about how a page breaks as well as how it looks. Hand-written HTML, CSS and JavaScript, no plugin stack to keep patched, forms that validate on both ends, and nothing left open that shouldn't be.
Services
Everything you need to get online, in one place.
-
01
Web Design
A site designed around your content and what it needs to do, not dropped into a template. Responsive from the start, so it reads the same on a phone as on a laptop.
-
02
Brand Identity
Logo, colour and type worked out together, so they hold up across the whole site and everything else you put your name on.
-
03
Portfolio Sites
Focused sites for showing work: photographers, designers, makers, studios. Adding a new project later takes minutes, not a rebuild.
-
04
Site Care & SEO
Ongoing updates, fixes, and the search-visibility basics: titles, descriptions, structure, speed. Month to month, no lock-in.
FAQ
If yours is not here, the form below reaches me directly.
How long does a project take?
About four weeks for a full site: a week to scope and design, a week or two to build, then launch. A single landing page is quicker.
What does it cost?
Every project is quoted as a fixed price after the consult call, so there are no hourly surprises. Tell me roughly what you have in mind in the form below.
Do I own the site when it is done?
Yes. The site, the files and the domain are yours, with handoff notes explaining how it is put together. You are never locked into working with me.
Can I update it myself afterwards?
Yes. The handoff covers the parts you will want to change most: text, images, adding a project. If you would rather not, site care covers it.
Do you build on WordPress or Squarespace?
No. Sites are hand-written HTML, CSS and JavaScript, so there is no plugin stack to keep patched and very little for a browser to load.
What do you need from me to start?
A conversation, and whatever content you already have. If the content is the thing holding you up, that is normal and we can shape it together.
